Come down and join the fun and don’t forget to bring a sack for all the candy! The community was named for Bill Osborne who started up a Trading Post.

Survivors, friends, and relatives of the 91 miners who lost their lives in the Sunshine Mine Fire gather once a year to pay tribute not only to those who died, but to those who went down into the mine time after time to rescue their fellow miners. As the Senator for the Silver Valley, it is my honor to stand alongside those who mourn their loss and remember the fateful events of May 2, 1972. The Sunshine disaster precipitated the mandatory use of mine rescue devices in all underground mines. An account of the tragic event can be read at http://www.usmra.com/saxsewell/sunshine.htm
While the good folks of Idaho’s richest silver mining district remember those good men, they have their eyes on the future. Mining is still the largest employer in the valley. The Sunshine Mine reopened this year and things are looking up for the next generation of hard rock miners.
Join us on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
Sunshine Mine is located 8 miles southeast of Kellogg, Idaho in Shoshone County.

Joyce
