Joyce Broadsword – Idaho Senate District #2 – 2010

Home

Welcome!

Thank you for visiting my website!  Please feel free to come in and learn more about me and what I have been working on for you in the Idaho State Senate.

I am proud to serve the people of Benewah, Bonner, Kootenai and Shoshone Counties.  Serving as your state senator is a great honor, privilege and duty I take very seriously.

Inside this website you will read where I stand on the issues and I believe you will come away with a clear impression of who I am.  I believe I hold the same bedrock values and beliefs as my neighbors:  fighting to lower not raise taxes, removing burdens on businesses that create the jobs we need in northern Idaho and the protection of our children from predators.

I ask you to support me in my bid for re-election.  With your support we can keep northern Idaho represented on the important committees I sit on—Health & Welfare, Transportation and, most of all, the powerful Joint Finance Appropriations Committee.

With your much appreciated support, I can continue to work to get the job done.

Thank you.

Joyce

    Dear Senator Broadsword,

I understand you are up for re-election. You have my vote! I’ve always admired you and your stance on the core values the people of North Idaho hold so dear. My family is impressed by your record and they too are casting their votes for you! I’ve emailed you a year ago about an issue I read in our local newspaper, and you jumped on it. I’m writing you again, because I see another possible issue.
I’m a sophomore student at the University of Idaho, Moscow. I major in Elementary Education, and proudly want to take my degree back home to Benewah County upon graduation. My home of St. Maries has provided so much support for mine and other educations. Recently, the University announced that staff were being laid off, parking permit fees were increasing, and a 12% tuition increase was proposed to the Idaho Board of Education. I understand the University is a land grant institution, and they have limits to what they can increase our tuition to, but I’m scared it will get higher! I don’t think the University is doing enough to cut corners, and they’re making too much of a hasty decision that affects the students. My dad is a logger, my mom works in a grocery store, and they’re doing all they can to put myself and my older sister through college. I love my school, the reputation, the atmosphere, and the education I’m receiving. I don’t want to transfer to another smaller school or drop out because I can’t afford to go. Senator Broadsword, as you have done before, is there any way you can influence a more responsible way of the University of Idaho meeting their budget without raising tuition?

Thank you for your service and hard work!

    Sincerely,

    Jackie Sherwood
    St. Maries, ID

Hi Joyce A few things have come to my attention that might concern you, concerning health and welfare. On day care voutchers, providers have had recipients bring in children in for 4 instead of 5 days, to make up for cuts in payments.
Also hospitals have been billing for excess MRI’s. ie without imaging dye and without have different procedural codes. Friend told me that medicare has active investigation about this. Ps. I had it done to me and they billed my private insurance. Keep having fun. Hope redistricting doesn’t affect you.
Oh Oh could be you and Shawn in same district. Pat

Dear Senator Joyce: I met you in Kellogg a few years ago back on 4th of July. My name is Aaron Bartley, my wife and I own and operate Kellogg Vacation Homes. We have supported your agenda in the Legislature.
As a small business owner, I don’t need to tell you how brutal the economy is and especially hard hit is the tourism and lodging industry. On November 8th, Kellogg City Council will put on its’ ballot a 7% “tourist” tax on all lodging under 30 days. The Council contends that they have the “legal” authority to propose such a tax claiming Kellogg to be a “destination resort” town with a population of under 10,000 and receiving the majority of revenue in Kellogg directly from tourism. We in the Lodging Industry in Kellogg strongly disagree and wish to have the legal authority for this tax reviewed. The majority of revenue in Kellogg comes from Dave Smith Motors (the world’s largest Dodge dealer), the Hospital, grocery and convenience stores, city public employees, post office, etc – NOT lodging for tourists. In fact, the combined revenues of all lodging is les than
2 million. Dave Smith Motors alone with its 200 employees and multi millions in revenues far outreaches the lodging revenues for tourists. We in the lodging industry in Kellogg also contend that with the Interstate 90 running through the middle of Kellogg, more is made in revenues from non-tourists stopping not destination tourism. We NEED YOUR HELP! Does Kellogg meet the criteria to collect a 7% “Resort Tax” and have the legal
authority to put on the ballot? As the matter stands, only citizens of Kellogg can vote on this thus not allowing property owners who reside out of state, who already pay double in property taxes, to Vote. We have a runaway city government with our Kellogg City Officials proposing this tax as a means to “fix” the city streets. Aaron Bartley 208-659-3346.
