Joyce Broadsword - Idaho Senate District #2 - 2008

Home

The 2008 Primary is over. Thank you for your vote and your confidence in me to continue my service to all of the people in District 2. My husband John and I have been enjoying visiting with so many of you as we participate in local events within our many and distinct communities throughout the district.   It feels like we are checking in with members of the family.

There is a lot to complain about right now.   It costs more than ever to fill our tanks to go to the store where the food costs more.  Everyone is cutting back, tightening their belts, and looking for solutions in the family budget as they gather ’round the kitchen table.   This is what I do.  As your Senator I sit around the citizen’s kitchen table in Boise and we try to find ways to make each dollar last longer.

What I appreciate about the voters in district 2 is their knack for offering solutions to the issues that affect our daily lives.   We are all in this together and we know that as we continue our “conservative conversation” into the summer months and to the fall election that we need to prepare for the next legislative session.

Loud voices, personal attacks, and misdirection will not get the people’s business done. Hard choices, resolve, and calm voices will be needed to get beyond these hard times.   I run for office as a “responsible Republican” and I serve as a voice for all the citizens in my district. I promise to always do my best and to be accessible to you.

I will continue my meet and greets, house parties, town hall meetings, and participation in forums through the General Election in November 2008 and beyond.   I hope to meet with you on the campaign trail. Your vote is very important to me. I am humbled and honored that you have sent me to Boise to represent you and I am asking for your support now to continue working on solutions and legislation that is important to your family and mine.

Let’s get together soon,

Joyce

    Dear Senator Broadsword,

There are many compelling issues that never seem to be addressed adequately in Boise. How do we reduce the budget? How can we provide those essential services and keep costs down? Health Care, Education, and our roads are all concerns to me. I know that one Senator from northern Idaho cannot do it all by themselves; but I know you work hard to represent us and even though we have differed on a couple of ways to proceed, we share the same goals. You can count on our support.

I appreciate you steering me in the right direction. I did get a home and the loan did take into account my disability. I know I told you this before but I’m still impressed that you got personally involved and that you and your husband stayed in touch with me.

I remember how much you volunteered in the community before you were ever Senator Joyce Broadsword from Sandpoint, Idaho. My husband and I bought tee shirts from you at Timberfest after you were Senator. If you had a vote from everyone that attended an event at the Bonner County Fairgrounds; it would be a landslide!

You are exactly the person we need in the Idaho Legislature. You are compassionate, thoughtful, and patient. You are honest about what can be achieved when working on statutes or policy. You serve all of the people in your district and you are a responsible Republican.

I have always supported you. You’re a hard worker and you’ve connected the dots in Boise. A new Senator with an abrasive attitude and no experience will not serve the needs of the people. You are one of us and you serve all of us well. You skill, knowledge, and experience cannot be matched by your opponents. If this was about comparing resumes, it would be a slam dunk. I’m voting Broadsword for Senate.

I admire your resolve on health issues Senator Broadsword. I was working on Tuesday when you toured the facility and I can’t remember anyone asking so many questions let alone listening to the answers to attentively. I know one Senator can’t do it all by themselves, but you will be able to communicate to your fellow legislators. I am convinced that I did the right thing when I voted for you in the past and I will vote for you now. Thank you for your attention.

You represent us well Senator Broadsword. You listened to me when you were in St. Maries, Idaho two years ago and instead of saying that we may have to agree to disagree; you continued to work with us. We have made progress together and produced results that can be measured. I appreciate the notes, the encouragement, and the phone calls. You are everything we need in a legislator. You listen ,keep in touch, and respond. While we do not agree entirely on how to get things done, we obviously agree on what needs to be done. Here in Idaho we call that a good start. Dale and I offer our continued support and votes because you have earned them as our Senator. Thank you for your service.

Thank you for participating in the NRA dinner and for being so accessible to all of us. While waiting my turn to speak with you I could not help but notice the impressive warehouse of knowledge you have on a variety of issues. You made some points about subjects that I never thought of affecting my family until now. I have promised myself that I am going to become a more informed voter. I am voting Broadsword.

    Dear Senator Broadsword,

My brothers and I are spending the next few days calling and emailing everyone we know to vote for you next Tuesday.

We never heard of one of your opponents and when we tried to reach him we were told that he would call us back. Never happened.

The other guy thinks he is Ron Paul. I don’t care if he is Ru Paul, he will never get our votes. Check this guy out for yourself. Druids? Abbeys? Mulitiple wives? What kind of conservative is that?

We are supporting American Family Values and that means you!

    Sincerely,

    Andy, Jim, and John Timmonson

    Dear Joyce,

It was a treat to visit with you in Priest River, Idaho. The Governor and his wife were so gracious to all.

My sisters and I know how hard you and John work and appreciate you both so much.

    Good luck on Tuesday,

    Mary Langdone

Your victory last night reflects the broad base of support you have from informed voters. The hate mail sent out at the last minute by Larry Spencer directed at you and Senator Shawn Keough did not affect the vote.

Spencer has never run for office, never been a campaign manager, and does not comprehend people working together on solutions.

I am proud of the way you and Senator Keough showed poise and tolerance in the face of the vicious attacks from Keough’s opponent.

Thank you for your service and let’s move on to the state convention and forward to the general election.

Thank you all for your kind remarks. Remember, we are all interested in the same thing, a better life for our families. Please keep your remarks non confrontational. My opponents both ran clean respectful campaigns and were gentlemen throughout. They had some good ideas and it is important for us all to embrace the good and go forward as republicans.
